Green chemistry behind new Brisbane company: Sacron Innovations

August 23, 2010

New biotechnology Company, Sacron Innovations Pty Ltd, established by the *CRC SIIB to ensure the best commercialisation of the CRC's intellectual property, launched their website on 10 August: www.sacroninnovations.com; and announced their office will be based in Toowong, Brisbane.

Core Sacron business includes the development and commercialisation of outcomes from CRC SIIB research including waterproofing technology, Barrecote™ and the powerful GI lowering compound, GI Wise™. These are original, Australian innovations that provide positive business opportunities for the Australian sugarcane industry and Sacron investors.

The Australian sugarcane industry and CRC SIIB participants structured Sacron Innovations to enable strong business opportunities to flow on from the CRC's major research outcomes.

Sacron Innovations' products will tap into previously unexplored areas of sugarcane biotechnology. Barrecote™ for example involves taking the sugarcane plant's bagasse and processing it in such a way that it becomes a world-first biodegradable/recyclable form of coating to waterproof paper-based products such as food cartons.

While in the short term Sacron Innovations will 'grow' the CRC's business outcomes, in the future Sacron may also manage the commercial development of other new bio-based research opportunities.

*The CRC SIIB was a unique alliance of Australia's top sugarcane biotechnology research organisations including four Universities, sugar industry research organisations, Federal and Queensland State Governments, and commercial expertise.   The CRC SIIB wound up operations on 30 June 2010.
